(Updated October 2015)
For those of you who don’t like to read long posts, the answer is YES!
In our search to help you save money, we have been looking at whether having gas and electric bills separately is cheaper than having a duel fuel bill.
It didn’t take us long to see that for an average household getting the cheapest electricity and gas supplier is considerably cheaper – well about £25
This is bad news for us as the cheapest gas suppliers do not give us (or Price Comparison Websites) any commission – but we think give people honest advice is more important than earning commissions.
How the figures stack up
(29 October 2015)
Figures are for average household use and averaged across the 14 supply regions. An average household uses 12,500 kWh gas and 3,100 kWh of electricity per year.
We are only considering fixed tariffs of at least 12 months in this analysis – as we don’t trust energy suppliers to keep variable tariffs low!
1 year fixed tariff for gas and electricity combined
£790 (includes £10 cashback on a switch where applicable)
Best Alternative duel fuel tariff
£813 (includes £10 cashback on a switch where applicable)
Why haven’t we listed the suppliers for these offers?
The best supplier is different in different regions and also for different usages … its not our fault that energy suppliers make it so hard to compare their tariffs. For an average user EVERY region is cheaper if you buy your electricity and gas from 2 different companies.
